So of course on turn 2 I decide to Killzone overwatch the Andromedon + Codex pod, and when they move to activate (yes I have the mod that makes Killzone work out of concealment) this also brings in a bunch more enemies. Fortress! Solace! Sustain! But no Domination.Īnd there's a Supply Raid mission where I will face Gatekeeper, Andromedon, Sectoids, and a shedload of Advent.
It's January 2036 in my Legend Ironman run and I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for one of my two Psions to learn Domination. The main thing, as usual, is to go in with a plan and leverage the heck out of whatever you're using. However, both of these can be very powerful if deployed in a way that synergizes with your abilities and the rest of the squad. Shredding + bluescreen is still probably your best bet, and either way it's going to take three or four soldiers to take one of these things down even if you do everything right. Of course, that takes two soldiers and blows most of your cooldowns on the sharpshooter. Getting some shredding in first helps a lot, obviously, and even a single plasma grenade improves the damage output by 10. Assuming all five shots hit, that's 25 - 30 damage on Veteran, 20 - 25 on Commander, and 15 - 20 on Impossible. This does not ignore armor, which is 4 on Veteran, 5 on Commander, and 6 on Impossible.

And you get two shots at shutdown.Ī pistol sharpshooter, by comparison, can take up to 5 shots (quickdraw, pistol shot, fan fire) which deal 4 - 5 damage plus 5 for bluescreen rounds. That's 24 damage that bypasses armor, which can all but kill the Sectopod on Veteran and takes off over half the life with one soldier's actions in both Commander and Legendary. I mean, imagine putting one in the double grenade slot and then hitting that sectopod with Salvo. Depending on what you have on the squad, the grenade may synergize more effectively with the people you have.
